Reasonable Expectations

Reasonable Expectations

Sometimes we need to have reasonable expectations for our kids and be in touch with reality. As much as we want our kids to become the next Prime mister of Canada or Wayne Gretzky of hockey, we might have to accept it might not ever happen for one reason or another. You might not be raising the next Peyton Manning but an Amazing preschool teacher, Police Officer, YouTube star or just a hardworking child still trying to find their way. We shouldn’t dream too big for our kids and no matter how hard you try to hide it from them the kids are tuned in the dreams you have for them. Talk about a lot of pressure if they let you down and its not easy to let your parents down no matter how independent they are. I’m currently 47 and still try by best to not let my mother down and my father before he pasted away. Kids need to feel like they can be themselves and explore a variety of interests without risking disappointment from parents.

After writing this I am actually curious what my Mom hoped for me….I guess this will be something I asked this Christmas dinner.

In grade 8 I choose to become a dentist but this choice was only based on the fact how much money they made. I always had a close bond to my Mom and I knew I would need lots of money to look after her. She would joke about , would I buy her a wheelchair. I was like you will have the best one on the market. Well after enrolling in grade 9 enriched classes to start my dentist career I was off to my Unreasonable exception. Maybe the teachers and guidance counselor didn’t really care or just didn’t have the heart to tell me….but I failed 5 classes out of 8 and that dream was gone. After a visit to the Guidance counselor, they suggested  switching to general level classes and work towards a factory job. This is when something clicked in my head that I wanted to do Martial Arts for the rest of my life and fast forward to day and glad I am help kids and Adults reach their fitness goals and not working on teeth.
