Injuries in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu are a reality—just like in any physical sport. But at Greenwood Jiu Jitsu, we believe in doing everything we can to train smart, stay aware, and protect each other on the mats. Since opening in 2012, our focus has always been on building a strong, respectful, and safe training environment for everyone—from first-timers to seasoned practitioners.
We’re proud to say that in over a decade, we’ve only ever had to ask one student to leave. That individual, who we now jokingly refer to as the “1-Star Assassin,” simply didn’t align with our values. Despite what a handful of fake reviews from his online gaming friends might claim, the truth is simple: we respect the tap. It’s not just about technique—it’s about trust. Ironically, the one person accusing others of not tapping was the same person who refused to do so himself, repeatedly putting his training partners at risk. Ironically this person asks others to post for him and won’t leave a review with his own account and hold himself accountable.
If you’re part of the Greenwood Jiu Jitsu family, you know we take care of each other. Safety isn’t a marketing phrase here—it’s a way of training, a mindset, and a responsibility. And when someone can’t be trusted to uphold that? We take action. Every student’s well-being matters more than one person’s ego.
We train hard, we train smart, and we support each other. If standing up for our students brings online criticism from those who were never a fit here, so be it. We’ll do it again if we have to—because keeping our community safe is non-negotiable.
Train safe. Train smart. Tap early. Respect always.
See you on the mats,
The Greenwood Jiu Jitsu Team
